In 2008, the Book Buddies formed as a community organization to support and focus public attention on the library by:
v serving as goodwill ambassadors in representation to the community;
v stimulate use of the library’s resources and services;
v receive and encourage gifts, endowments and bequests;
v support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community;
v lend legislative support where needed;
v support the Freedom To Read and the Freedom To View as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.
The Book Buddies is a non-profit organization open to everyone regardless of gender, race, religion, disability, age or place of residence. The Book Buddies operate as a separate entity under the umbrella of the Library and does not involve itself in Library policy.
Your tax deductible donation to Book Buddies “in memory of” or “in honor of” your loved ones and friends is always appreciated. Please mail contributions to: Book Buddies, c/o Viola Public Library District,

Help with Annual Trivia Night
and more . . .
Fund raising efforts for the Viola Public Library District are limited only by the creativity and enthusiasm of the people involved. If you have any ideas or want to help, join the Book Buddies. The group meets the third Saturday of the month at 10:00 am at the library.
The library and Book Buddies joined Royal Neighbors of America Chapter in December 2008. The purpose of the Chapter is to help improve the community where the chapter is located. Whether hosting events or holding fundraisers, our Chapter works to improve both the library and the Viola community.
Projects completed since December 2008 include giving ten teddy bears to the New Windsor Police Department for children in crisis; hosting a game day for children; holding our first annual "Children's Christmas Store;" helping with the annual "Are You Smarter Than a Librarian" Trivia Night; holding knitting and crocheting classes; and making kites with children.
Upcoming projects include JOIN HANDS DAY on May 2. Members of RNA Chapter 20066 and volunteers will make recyclable shopping bags from donated material and no longer wearable clothing.
Ten bags will be donated to the Viola Volunteer Fire Department for children in need. The bags will have a coloring book, crayons, reading book, and Playdoh. Ten bags will be donated to Heritage Woods in Aledo for their residents.
Additional projects include a yard and book sale on June 13; sponsoring a petting zoo for children on June 25; sponsoring a program from the Forest Park Nature Center on July 2; book sale during the Thresher's Reunion in September; 2nd Annual Mystery Dinner in September or October; and the Children's Christmas Store in December.
Membership in our chapter is $14.95 per year. To sign up as a member, stop by the library for an application. To volunteer for Chapter events, check at the library for dates and sign up.
